Heavy Duty Gear Set for OMC Stringer Includes GLM21651 thrust washer*
When all three gears need replacing in your OMC sterndrive the installation of this heavy-duty gear set is highly recommended. The heavy-duty gears can be used with all V6 and V8 OMC sterndrives from 1978-1985 with mechanical shift (not 1978-1980 with hydraulic shift). It is recommended that a new clutch GLM22625 (this clutch is not included with the gear set) be installed with the heavy-duty gears.
*For model year 1990 OMC increased the prop shaft diameter at the carrier needle bearing (not the prop splines) from 1-3/16 to 1-1/4 inches. Some older gearcases may be fitted with the new large diameter prop shaft. The large diameter prop shaft utilizes a thrust washer (included with this gear set) between the prop shaft and reverse gear. Discard the thrust washer when using the small diameter prop shaft.
